SCORE Task Force to Meet Next Week in Fayette County

CHARLESTON, W.V. – Senate President Jeff Kessler (D-Marshall) announced today that the second meeting of the SCORE task force will meet next week in Fayette County. SCORE, Southern Coalfields Organizing and Revitalizing the Economy, is an initiative aimed to give southern West Virginia much-needed opportunities to diversify the economy and strengthen our families and communities.

Senate President Kessler says despite earlier reports, the SCORE task force is moving forward with its listening tours.

“While some have lost an election, I have not lost interest,” says Kessler. “The problems facing southern West Virginia didn’t change when the polls closed last week. The initiative remains important in order to hear from the people of southern West Virginia. The goal of the task force is to enable the region to assess its current challenges, gather ideas already underway addressing those challenges and then take this information and propose bi-partisan legislation during the 2015 legislative session. That hasn’t changed.”

Senator Bill Laird (D-Fayette) says he is happy to host the second SCORE Task Force meeting in his district.

“I look forward to continuing the work of the SCORE task force in order to gather as much information as possible before the start of the 2015 legislative session,” says Laird. “Our goal has always been and still is hearing from the people of southern West Virginia. I applaud my colleagues who are continuing with these very important meetings in order to complete what we started back in October.”

The forum is free and the public is encouraged to attend.
