COMMITTEE SUBSTITUTE FOR

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO.5(By Delegates R. Phillips, Tomblin and Marcum)

 

 

 

Requesting that bridge number 23-119/5-1.00 (23A129), on Route 119/5, otherwise known as the Pine Creek Road, in Pine Creek, outside of Omar, Logan County, West Virginia, be named the “Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. Bridge”.

    Whereas, Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy was born on February 26, 1933, in Pine Creek, Omar, West Virginia, to Mr. Elzie Mundy and Mrs. Cinda Skeens Mundy; and

    Whereas, Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. attended schools in Logan County throughout his public education; and

    Whereas, Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from the year 1953 through the year 1955; and

    Whereas, While in the United States Army, Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. was in the 3rd Armored Division, 125th Tank Division, serving as a Tank Commander of a M-4 medium tank; and

    Whereas, Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. served his country with honor and distinction, earning the respect and admiration of his comrades and officers; and

    Whereas, As a civilian, Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. continued to serve his nation as a coalminer and was loved and highly respected by his community and all who knew him; and

    Whereas, While Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. is no longer a resident of Logan County, West Virginia, the community continues to hold him close in thought and heart and in such high esteem that it desires to honor him with a namesake bridge; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 23-119/5-1.00 (23A129) in the Community of Pine Creek in Logan County, West Virginia, the “Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Division of Highways is hereby requested to erect signs at both ends of the bridge containing bold and prominent letters proclaiming the bridge the “Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr. Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways and to Army Sergeant Elzie Mundy, Jr.
