A BILL to amend and reenact §30-7-10 of the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, and to amend and reenact º30-7A-2 of said code, all relating to limiting the use of the titles of nurses.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That §30-7-10 of the code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended and reenacted; that º30-7A-2 of said code be amended and reenacted, all to read as follows:
ARTICLE 7. REGISTERED PROFESSIONAL NURSES.
§30-7-10. Use of titles.

Any person licensed pursuant to this article who holds a license to practice registered professional nursing in this state shall have the right to may use the title "registered nurse" and the abbreviation "R.N." or the term "nurse". Except as otherwise provided in article seven-a of this chapter, no other person shall may assume such a titles title or use such abbreviations or any other words, letters, figures, signs, or devices to indicate that the person using the same is a registered professional nurse.
ARTICLE 7A. PRACTICAL NURSES.
§30-7A-2. Use of titles.

(a) Any person who is qualified to serve as a licensed pursuant to this article practical nurse under the provisions of this article shall be known as a may use the title "licensed practical nurse," "practical nurse" or otherwise known as a and the abbreviation "L.P.N" or the term "nurse". After the thirtieth day of June, one thousand nine hundred sixty-eight, Except as otherwise provided in article seven of this chapter, no other person shall may engage in practical nursing nor assume such title, nor or use such abbreviation, or any other words, letters, figures, signs, or devices to indicate that the person using the same is a licensed practical nurse or a practical nurse. Provided, however, That Any person holding a valid license to practice practical nursing in this state as of the effective date of this article shall be deemed to be a licensed practical nurse under the provisions of this article.
