Delegate Danny Hamrick Chosen to Meet With National Experts on Fixing Roads - Lawmaker Seeks Solutions to “Urgent Need for Harrison County”

Harrison County, WV - Delegate Danny Hamrick (R - Harrison) was selected to participate in a national Transportation Leaders’ Policy Academy in Washington, D.C., May 11 through 13. The Harrison County legislator attended the sessions with lawmakers from across the United States.

“Especially after the harsh winter weather we experienced this year, Harrison County drivers need urgent improvements to our roads,” said Hamrick, Vice-Chair of the House Roads and Transportation Committee. “Addressing this serious problem requires immediate and long-term solutions for maintaining a safe and reliable system of roads and is of the highest priority.”

Hamrick said efficiency is the key change we need. West Virginia’s highways and roads are critical to any plans for keeping and attracting good jobs for Mountain State communities. He cited the findings of the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) that 28 percent of the state’s 10,433 miles of roadway need major repair or replacement. The association also estimates that one-third of the state’s bridges are structurally deficient or functionally obsolete.

“My plan is to return from these meetings with information on what's working in other states, so my colleagues in the House and Senate can deliver the needed resources to shore up our infrastructure in Harrison County and wherever West Virginians need dependable, structurally-sound roads for their families, school buses and business development,” said Hamrick.

The nonpartisan Council of State Governments (CSG) advises leaders in all three branches of state government on innovative public policy and is respected for its approach to a best practices approach and expertise in reaching multi-state public policy solutions.

Hamrick was first elected to the House of Delegates in 2012.
