Calls on Fundraiser Attendees to Help Save Mountaineer Food Bank

(Charleston, WV) Delegate Mike Pushkin is calling on the organizers and attendees of Tuesday morning’s GO WV $100,000 per plate fundraiser to help save Mountaineer Food Bank by contributing the cost of one ticket to the charity.

“Mountaineer Food Bank helps feed hardworking West Virginians in 48 counties across the state by providing about 7.2 million meals a year,” says Pushkin. “260,000 of our fellow West Virginians are fed every month by this worthwhile program. Anyone who can afford to pay $100,000 to attend a political breakfast can come up with a like amount to save Mountaineer Food Bank.”

Mountaineer Food Bank delivers to more than 400 agencies statewide. In addition to traditional food deliveries, one of the many items delivered to the pantries around the state are backpacks, given to schoolchildren to take home on Fridays for them to eat on until they return to school on Monday.

“Go West Virginia’s website says that it is ‘dedicated to moving West Virginia and the country in the right direction,’ said Pushkin. “I can think of no better way to do that than by helping save this program that has served our state and our people so well for so long.”

“Given that Go West Virginia supports cutting the prevailing wage, opposes increasing the minimum wage, and backs polices that will reduce the ability of unions to function, Mountaineer Food Bank is going to be needed now more than ever said Pushkin. I hope that they’ll announce their support by the end of their breakfast.”
