CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Last night, the House of Delegates tabled House Bill 2021. The bill was on second reading with amendments pending. With today being the final day that bills can originate from their house of origin, the bill will not likely move any further.
The bill would provide for the drug testing of recipients of federal and state financial assistants. Among the amendments pending were provisions to drug test legislators. Delegate Jeff Eldridge (D-Lincoln) spoke on the bill.
“I am not pleased to see the bill end its progress. I felt this was an important bill that should have received a vote from the House. For it or against it, the bill deserved a vote.”
Delegate Eldridge also spoke on the amendments to the bill.
“We as a body should not require a drug test from those receiving assistance until we take one.”
