Delegate Jeffries Invites Rural King to Elkview Crossings Mall

ELKVIEW, W.Va. – Delegate Dean Jeffries, R-Kanawha, today sent a letter to Rural King CEO Alex Melvin inviting the retailer to take over the Elkview Crossings Mall location that had been occupied by K-Mart, which that company announced it was shuttering as part of a nationwide wave of store closures.

“I believe Rural King and the Elk River area – the district in which I proudly live and represent – are a perfect fit,” Delegate Jeffries wrote. “We both embrace the rural lifestyle, and our shared values are why I would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to Rural King to open a store in the Elk River district.”

Delegate Jeffries praised the company for its recent public statement of support for Americans’ Second Amendment rights.

The company recently wrote on its Facebook page, “While some retailers are bowing to pressures involving the selling of firearms, Rural King will continue to sell firearms lawfully in all our stores…”

“The people of my district admire companies with strong principles that don’t kowtow to the pressures of knee-jerk waves of fickle public political correctness,” Delegate Jeffries said. “That’s why I’m reaching out today, because I firmly believe this business would be an ideal fit for our community.”

Delegate Jeffries noted the Elk River communities in his district are strongly bouncing back from the 2016 floods. He said the loss of K-Mart now leaves a large hole in the local economy which presents a tremendous opportunity for a new retailer. He invited CEO Alex Melvin to contact him or meet with him in West Virginia to discuss the opportunity locating at the Elkview Crossings Mall presents for the company.
