Delegate Marcum Advocates for Improved Infrastructure and New Coal Jobs

Charleston W.Va – Delegate Justin Marcum, D – Mingo, has introduced and is lead sponsor of a bill into the House of Delegates that would fall right in line with the promises of the return of coal and improved infrastructure by President Trump.

House Bill 2636 would relate to the construction of a modern four lane highway from Pikeville, Kentucky to Beckley, West Virginia. The goal of the bill is to bring jobs to Mingo county and southern West Virginia.

Del. Marcum said, “The construction of the highway would open up southern West Virginia to new mine jobs, due to the better access to that area of the state, which will result in a growth and prosperity of the area and of West Virginia as a whole.”

The bill’s proposed highway would lead to more construction jobs in order to the build the road, as the improvement to the state’s infrastructure would be a great undertaking. Since the highway would link the south part of the state with a route to Kentucky, the economy would also become more diverse. This would promote businesses to locate along the highway in Mingo county and the rest of southern West Virginia once it’s construction has finished. Tourism may also increase due to the highway which would result in even more new jobs for West Virginians.

President Trump has promised to help West Virginians to bring back coal and has promised $1 trillion in spending on improving the infrastructure of the country. Delegate Marcum hopes that some of those funds will be dedicated to his bill, in order to complete the highway and bring coal back in the process.
