Delegates To Host Tax Reform Public Comment Hearing November 10th In Bluefield

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Delegates Marty Gearheart, John Shott and Joe Ellington, all R-Mercer, will host a town hall-style public hearing Tuesday, Nov. 10, in Bluefield to hear citizens’ ideas and comments on potential state tax reform proposals.

The forum will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Bluefield High School Performing Arts Center.

“We want to hear from the people about their ideas to improve the tax climate here in West Virginia,” said Gearheart, a member of the Legislature’s Joint Select Committee on Tax Reform.

The full committee held a separate public comment hearing Oct. 20 in the House of Delegates chamber in Charleston, but Gearheart said he wanted to give people who didn’t have time to make the drive to Charleston a chance to have their views heard.

“Southern West Virginia has been hit hard by the decline of the coal industry, and the area faces many unique challenges,” Gearheart said. “Legislative leadership is committed to improving our state’s tax climate in order to improve our economy, and I want to make sure our area’s citizens are able to weigh in on this process.”

All comments made at the hearing will be documented and recorded so they can be submitted to the full tax reform committee for their consideration.
