Senator Kent Leonhardt Honors Veterans with Resolution

CHARLESTON – Senator Kent Leonhardt, R-Monongalia, honored West Virginia veterans with a resolution designating February 16 as Veterans Visibility Day at the Capitol.

The resolution honors the thousands of West Virginians who have paid the ultimate price for freedom with their lives and the thousand more who have been wounded in battle, as well as those who continue to serve our country today.

Several veterans from across the state joined the Senate on the floor after the resolution was presented.

“Because of our veterans, we have the right to debate the issues in these great halls,” Senator Leonhardt said. “We may not always agree, but because of veterans, we have the right to choose which side of the debate we are on. Therefore, we should always be proud to serve.”

Senator Leonhardt, who serves as Chairman of the Senate Military Committee and a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Marine Corps, was the lead sponsor of the resolution. Other sponsors included Senator Daniel Hall, R-Wyoming; Senator Herb Snyder, D-Jefferson; Senator John Unger, D-Berkeley; Senator William Laird, D-Fayette; Senator Roman Prezioso, D-Marion; Senator Ron Stollings, D-Boone; and Senator Bob Williams, D-Taylor.
