Delegate Nancy Foster Submits Resignation From District 38 House Seat

SCOTT DEPOT, W.Va. – Delegate Nancy Foster, R-Putnam, today announced she is stepping down from her District 38 House of Delegates seat effective today.

“I’m grateful to the people who supported me and allowed me to be their voice in the Legislature,” Delegate Foster said. “The highlight of my political experience was getting to know the people of the 38th District and hearing their passion and hopes for change in this state.

“After much thought, prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided to resign my seat in the House of Delegates,” Delegate Foster said. “As a business owner, mother, grandmother and public servant, I’ve tried to balance time spent focused on my public and personal life. Unfortunately, at this time, I don’t feel I’m able to fulfill my business and family obligations while also devoting the time needed to effectively represent the people of my district.”

“The people of my district deserve someone who can put in long hours to go above and beyond to serve and represent them in government, but unfortunately, I don’t feel I can do that at this time,” Delegate Foster said. “While I’m stepping down from my seat, I still plan to continue being an advocate for conservative values and meaningful reforms, though as a private citizen for the time being.”

Delegate Foster served on the Judiciary, Industry and Labor, and Small Business and Economic Development committees in the House of Delegates.

House Speaker Tim Armstead, R-Kanawha, said he was sad to see Delegate Foster resign, but respects her decision.

“Nancy has been a strong advocate for bold, conservative changes in our state, and I will miss her passion in the Legislature,” Speaker Armstead said. “While I’m sad to see her leave, I respect her decision to do what she feels is in the best interest of the people of her district.”

District 38 includes portions of Putnam and Kanawha counties. The district’s Republican executive committee will have 15 days from Delegate Foster’s resignation to submit to Gov. Jim Justice the names of three potential replacements to serve out the rest of her term. Upon receiving that list, the Governor will have five days to appoint a replacement.
