SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 25

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number: 45-003/21-006.37 (45A010), (37.67294, -80.89718) locally known as MADAMS CREEK BRIDGE, carrying CR 03/21 over MADAMS CREEK in Summers County, the "U.S. Army SGT Wyatt K. Hinton Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Wyatt Kellem "WK" Hinton was born on May 8, 1919, at Madam Creek, West Virginia, the son of Joseph Isiah Hinton and Lou Ella Brabb Hinton; and

Whereas, Wyatt K. Hinton entered the U. S. Army in 1942.  He graduated from Ord Automotive School at Fort Cunnley, Georgia.  He proudly served his country and was honorably discharged on December 8, 1945.  He attained the rank of Sergeant Technician Fourth Grade; and

Whereas, Sergeant Wyatt K. Hinton received a Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal; and

Whereas, Sergeant Wyatt K. Hinton was the oldest living World War II veteran in Summers County; and

Whereas, Wyatt K. Hinton and his wife ran the Hinton Dairy for 25 years and together won the "Farm of the Year" award given by the Southern Soil Conservation District.  He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, auto mechanics, farming and gardening.  He attended Mt. Olive Church at Madams Creek; and

Whereas, Sergeant Wyatt K. Hinton died April 8, 2021, survived by his son, Thomas J. Hinton and daughter-in-law Rhodetta, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Sergeant Wyatt K. Hinton and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 45-003/21-006.37  (45A010), (37.67294, -80.89718) locally known as MADAMS CREEK BRIDGE, carrying CR 03/21 over MADAMS CREEK in Summers County, the "U.S. Army SGT Wyatt K. Hinton Memorial Bridge; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army SGT Wyatt K. Hinton Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
