HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 72

(By Delegates T. Campbell and Canterbury)

 

 

 

Designating “My Home Among the Hills” by E. W. James and “Country Roads” by John Denver, official state songs.

    Whereas, Prior to the year 2011, “The West Virginia Hills,” “This is My West Virginia,” and “West Virginia, My Home Sweet Home” were the official state songs; and

    Whereas, State songs have not been updated since last adopted in 1963; and

    Whereas, It is deemed desirable to add “My Home Among the Hills” and “Country Roads” as official state songs; and

    Whereas, “My Home Among the Hills” and “Country Roads” are regarded as admirably suited for such purpose; and

    Whereas, “My Home Among the Hills” and “Country Roads” describe the distinctive landscape of the state; and

    Whereas, ”My Home Among the Hills” and “Country Roads” are considered unofficial state songs and should be made official; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That “My Home Among the Hills” by E. W. James and “Country Roads” by John Denver be designated official state songs; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates, forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor.
