HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 50

(By Delegates Mazzocchi, Holstein, Bridges, W. Hall, Dittman, Adkins, and Ridenour)

[Introduced January 29, 2024; referred to the Committee on Technology and Infrastructure then Rules]

 

Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 23-044/04-000.02  () (23A188), (37.71090, -81.98702) locally known as SARAH ANN BOX BEAM, carrying CR 44/04 over ISLAND CREEK in Logan County the "Jack A. Hatfield Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Jack A. Hatfield was born August 22, 1922, at Logan, he was a son of the late Tennis Hatfield and Sadie Walters Hatfield Click and a grandson of William Anderson Hatfield, better known as "Devil Anse".  Jack served overseas on the on the USS New York during WW II in the U. S. Navy and was a retired coal miner having worked at Proctor Hollow on Buffalo Creek, and of the Freewill Baptist faith; and

Whereas, Jack A. Hatfield died December 20, 2009, at Logan Regional Medical Center, and was survived by two sons Stephen and his wife Deborah Hatfield of Sarah Ann and Jack Hatfield Jr. of Huntington; two daughters, Patricia Beres of Orlando, Florida, and Donnie Campbell of St. Augustine, Florida, and four brothers and two sisters; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Jack A. Hatfield and his contributions to our state, his community and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name Bridge Number: 23-044/04-000.02  () (23A188), (37.71090, -81.98702) locally known as SARAH ANN BOX BEAM, carrying CR 44/04 over ISLAND CREEK in Logan County. the Jack A. Hatfield Memorial Bridge".; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Jack A. Hatfield Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
