HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 4

(By Delegates Longstreth, Caputo and Manchin)

 

 

 

Requesting that bridge number 25-310-5.32 on County Route 310 at mile marker 5.32 in Walnut Grove, Marion County, West Virginia be named the “PFC Carl E. Talterson and PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. Memorial Bridge.”

    Whereas, PFC Carl E. Talterson was born and raised in Walnut Grove, West Virginia; and

    Whereas, PFC Carl E. Talterson entered the United States Army in 1943 and was assigned to Company B, 116th Regiment, 29th Infantry; and

    Whereas, PFC Carl E. Talterson was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantry Badge and the Prisoner of War medal; and

    Whereas, PFC Carl E. Talterson died in a German prisoner of war camp on October 20, 1944; and

    Whereas, PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. was also from Walnut Grove, West Virginia; and

    Whereas, PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. entered the United States Army in 1968; and

    Whereas, PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. was assigned to K Troop, 11th Armored Cavalry as an Armor Recon Specialist in Binh Long Province, Vietnam; and

    Whereas, PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. was awarded the Purple Heart and the Vietnam Service Medal; and

    Whereas, PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. died in action on June 20, 1969; and

    Whereas, PFC Carl E. Talterson and PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. served their country with honor and distinction; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 25-310-5.32 on County Route 310 at mile marker 5.32 in Walnut Grove, Marion County, West Virginia the “PFC Carl E. Talterson and PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Commissioner of the Division of Highways is hereby requested to erect signs at both ends of the bridge containing bold and prominent letters proclaiming the bridge the “PFC Carl E. Talterson and PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr. Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways and the families of PFC Carl E. Talterson and PFC Joseph W. Sell, Jr.
