HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 20

Requesting the Division of Highways to name the bridge in Foster on West Virginia Route 3, bridge number 03-03-11.12, as “The Daniel M. Gunnoe Memorial Bridge.”

    Whereas, Daniel M. Gunnoe was born in 1880 in Foster, West Virginia; and

    Whereas, Daniel M. Gunnoe was married to the late Carrie Dolin Gunnoe and had four children, Calbert Gunnoe, Ivory Gunnoe Thompson, Margie Gunnoe Ashby, and Myrtle Gunnoe Miller; and

    Whereas, Daniel M. Gunnoe lived his entire life in the Foster community, serving as the postmaster from April 1918 until April 1946, as well as owning and operating “Gunnoe’s Grocery”; and

    Whereas, Daniel M. Gunnoe was the first person in Foster to own an automobile and would take people to the doctor and hospital, and was also the first person in Foster to have a telephone; and

    Whereas, Daniel M. Gunnoe passed on in 1959; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the West Virginia Legislature:

    That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways to name the bridge in Foster on West Virginia Route 3, bridge number 03-03-11.12, as “The Daniel M. Gunnoe Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as “The Daniel M. Gunnoe Memorial Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Secretary of the Department of Transportation and to the family of Daniel M. Gunnoe.
