HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 15

(By Delegates Toney, Statler, Ellington, and Campbell)

[Introduced January 12, 2024; Referred
to the Committee on Technology and Infrastructure then Rules]

Requesting the Division of Highways name a bridge bearing Bridge Number: 41-077/00-028.93  (SB) (41A211), (37.61497, -81.12015) locally known as I-77 SB OVER 48, carrying IS 77 over Route 48 in Raleigh County as the "USMC Private Timith Daley Nunn Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn, was born on November 22nd, 1943, to the late Edgar and Mamie Clemens Nunn of Fairdale; and

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn attended Trap Hill High School before pridefully serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and as Military Police in Trinidad; and

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn, following his service in the military, spent the rest of his career working in the coal mining industry in West Virginia and Colorado; and

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn was a proud Freemason of 50 years as a member of the Beckley chapter (Lodge #95), an avid big game hunter, and a skilled fisherman; and

Whereas, Above all else, what brought him the most joy was spending time with his family; and

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn was a loving husband to his wife of 58 years, a protective father to his three children, and a devoted ‘Papaw’ to his 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren; and

Whereas, To know Timith D. Nunn was to know that ‘family’ did not stop with who shared his blood; and

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn taught us all that friends are just family members that we get to discover ourselves and he always made that love apparent to anyone he, or his family, called friend; and

Whereas, Sadly, Timith D. Nunn passed away in the early hours of September 10th, 2023; and

Whereas, The way Timith D. Nunn lived his life is a testament to his spirit and an example of how one is supposed to - cherish where you come from, work to get where you want to be, recognize that every moment is an experience (and make sure to tell the stories), invest in your relationships and ensure that everyone you love feels uniquely special, share with others all that you’ve been blessed with, love in the extreme, laugh when it’s hard, and fight until the Lord tells you to rest; and

Whereas, Timith D. Nunn's legacy is carried on through his survivors which include his wife, Violet Persinger Nunn of Cool Ridge, his son, Tim Nunn of Cool Ridge, his daughter, Tammy Nunn Niday (Steven) of Asheboro, NC, and daughter Tracy Nunn Johnson (Michael) of Beckley, and he is also survived by his grandchildren, Megan Niday of Asheboro, NC, Ty Niday (Katie) of Lexington, NC, Justin Johnson of Nashville, TN, Kerrigan Johnson of Charleston, SC, Zack Nunn of Shady Spring, Hayden Johnson of Beckley, and Josh Stuart ( Erin) of Pueblo, CO; his sisters, Jane Nunn, Nancy King, Marilyn Wade, and Gay Nunn; and his great grandchildren, Levi Niday, and Gavin, Landon, Addison, and Adelyn Stuart.

Whereas, For these reasons it is fitting and proper that the bridge be named in honor of Timith D. Nunn; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
