A BILL to amend and reenact §17C-15-42 of the code of West
Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to motor vehicles
generally; and prohibiting certain video monitors including
certain navigation monitors forward of the driver's seat.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That §17C-15-42 of the code of West Virginia, 1931, as
amended, be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 15. EQUIPMENT.
§17C-15-42. Television receivers and video monitors in view of
driver prohibited.
No motor vehicle shall be operated on any street or highway in
this state when equipped with a television receiver, a video
monitor used to view prerecorded video tapes, navigation monitors
that are not factory installed in the dash or after-market
navigation monitors not installed in the dash of the motor vehicle unless such the receiver or monitor is so placed so that the
screen, monitor or picture tube of such receiver is visible only in
the rear seat of such the motor vehicle and not in view of the
operator of such the motor vehicle.
The provisions of this section are not applicable to factory
installed, onboard, in dash navigation system monitors nor to
after-market navigation monitors that are mounted in the dash of
motor vehicles.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to prohibit
certain video
monitors including certain navigation monitors forward of driver's
seats
of motor vehicles.
