A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §5-5-7, relating to
salaries of state employees.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §5-5-7, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 5. SALARY INCREASE FOR STATE EMPLOYEES.
§5-5-7. State employees salaries to be above Federal Poverty
Guidelines.
(a) Commencing on July 1, 2009, a state employee may not have
a salary that is less than one hundred twenty-five percent of the
Federal Poverty Guidelines as set forth in the Federal Register on
January 23, 2009.
(b) Every year on July 1, all state salaries shall be adjusted to at least one hundred twenty-five percent above the Federal
Poverty Guidelines issued in January of the current year, and set
forth in the Federal Register.
NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to raise the state salary
level to at least one hundred twenty-five percent above the Federal
Poverty Guidelines.
