H. R. 19 -- "In memory of the late William E. 'Bill' Stewart,
former member of the House of Delegates of the County of Marion."
Whereas, William E. Stewart, of Fairmont, died on March 12,
1996, at the age of 68; and
Whereas, Bill Stewart was born June 22, 1928 to Lawrence and
Nettie Stewart. He attended the public schools of the State and
was married in 1948 to Louise Moran, and they had two children,
Cheryl L. Preened and Cassandra L. Stewart.
A Methodist by faith, Bill Stewart was also active in
community and civic affairs and organizations. He was a member of
the VFW, the Moose, Lions, NRA, Mountaineer Boy Scout Executive
Council, a charter member of the Marion County 4-H Foundation, past
president of the Marion County Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, past
president of Local Unions 79 and 109, GBBA, Corporate Member of
Monongahela Valley Association of Health Centers, Incorporated, and
a veteran of the US Army during the Korean War, serving with the
62nd Topographic Engineer Company.
Bill Stewart was distinctly and foremost an advocate for the
Laborers and Trade Unionists in West Virginia and he focused his
efforts and support not only toward that end, but also toward industrial development for Fairmont and Marion County and
particularly toward improving and repairing highways and better
accesses to Interstate 79.
Bill Stewart prided himself in being a premier campaigner and
he loved to mingle with everyday people. A great concern and love
of his was to help others; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That regret be hereby expressed upon the occasion of this
House of Delegates taking note of the passing of a friend and
colleague, that sincere condolences be hereby formally expressed to
the family and that this House of Delegates hereby note its
collective sorrow; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
prepare copies of this resolution for Louise Moran Stewart, his
wife, and Cheryl and Cassandra, his children.
