§33-25A-35. Rural health maintenance organizations.
The Legislature finds that the provisions of this article, and
in particular, the financial requirements that are conditions
precedent to the establishment of a health maintenance
organization, may be unnecessarily restrictive as applied to small
managed care organizations to operate in rural areas of the state,
and that the public interest may be served by the development of
less restrictive standards permitting the creation of rural health
maintenance organizations. Therefore, the commissioner shall
develop and present to the joint committee on government and
finance, not later than the fifteenth day of January, one thousand
nine hundred ninety-seven, a proposal for legislation to be
considered during the regular session of the Legislature in the
year one thousand nine hundred ninety-seven, providing standards
for the development and operation of rural health maintenance
organizations.
