Position: Claim Investigator
Office: West Virginia Court of Claims, Crime Victims Compensation Fund
Nature of work: Investigate claims filed under the Crime Victims Compensation Act
Qualifications: Criminal justice degree or related background
Knowledge, skills: Word processing, spreadsheet, database computer programs
General duties:
- Review applications to determine eligibility for victim compensation awards
- Request documentation from providers, law enforcement, employers, etc. to process claims
- Maintain filing system
- Compile and review documents to determine eligibility and amount of compensation, if any
- Prepare a report consisting of a narrative, economic loss analysis, if any, and supporting documents (exhibits)
- Prepare memoranda in ongoing claims (for additional awards)
- Assist Attorney General's Office in appeal hearings
- Some outreach efforts
