SENATE RESOLUTION 48

Designating April 9, 2025, as Cyberbullying Awareness and Prevention Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, Cyberbullying has become an alarming issue in our digital age, affecting individuals of all ages, particularly young people, by causing emotional distress, harm to self-esteem, and long-term mental health challenges; and

Whereas, The impact of cyberbullying can have severe consequences, including depression, anxiety, social isolation, and even tragic outcomes such as self-harm or suicide; and

Whereas, We recognize the importance of creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful online environment for all individuals, regardless of age, gender, race, or background; and

Whereas, Education and awareness are essential in preventing cyberbullying, as understanding the signs, consequences, and effective ways to intervene can significantly reduce the occurrence of such behavior; and

Whereas, Parents, educators, communities, and technology companies all have a role to play in ensuring that the online spaces we occupy are free from harassment and abuse; and

Whereas, Each of us can contribute to the solution by encouraging kindness, empathy, and respect both online and offline, and by standing up against cyberbullying when we witness it; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates April 9, 2025, as Cyberbullying Awareness and Prevention Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That we encourage everyone to raise awareness about the serious effects of cyberbullying through educational campaigns, workshops, and community outreach; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the appropriate representatives of Cyberbullying Awareness and Prevention Day.
