SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 26

(By Senators Laird, Unger, Plymale, Stollings and Yost)

 

Recognizing professional loggers throughout the State of West Virginia.

    Whereas, The West Virginia Division of Forestry created the “Loggers of Excellence” program as a recognition initiative designed and implemented to place positive emphasis on those professional loggers who go above and beyond the law during a given calendar year; and

    Whereas, Professional loggers must qualify for the following minimum criteria on an annual basis: The company must maintain a valid timber license for the entire year; must be in compliance with the laws of the state, specifically referring to their business license, worker’s compensation, and unemployment compensation; must receive no orders for noncompliance from the Division of Forestry; must be a professional logger who has harvested at least 100 acres during the year; and

    Whereas, Professional loggers are the keystone for the entire forest products industry which provides tremendous economic benefit to the state; and

    Whereas, The following 21 professional loggers have exceeded these standards for 5 consecutive calendar years: Appalachian Logging, Bennett Logging Company Inc., Bragg Wood Products Inc., Bulldog Logging LLC, C&B Logging Inc., D&K Logging Inc., D&S Contracting, Gerald Damron Logging, Hamilton Construction, Harry Vance Logging, JMB Logging LLC, Judy Logging, Larry Shaws Logging, Lynch Hardwoods LLC, R Petrice Logging, RD Timber LLC, Robinson Logging Co LLC, S&S Enterprises, Simmons Brothers Logging Inc., Whites Logging LLC, Williams & Sons Lumber Co Inc.; and

    Whereas, Forest management and sustainability is impossible without the efforts of professional loggers; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Senate:

    That the Senate hereby recognizes professional loggers throughout the State of West Virginia; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Senate invites all members of the West Virginia Legislature and all citizens of West Virginia to join in recognizing the contribution of the forest industry of West Virginia and the outstanding example that these companies have set; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Division of Forestry.
