SENATE RESOLUTION 12

(By Senators Clements, Takubo, and Jeffries)

[Introduced February 25, 2025]

 

Designating February 26, 2025, as Corrections Day at the Legislature.

Whereas, The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation is committed to enhancing public safety, promoting offender accountability, and successfully reintegrating offenders into society; and

Whereas, The role of corrections staff is significant, as they are responsible for the well-being and rehabilitation of thousands of offenders each year while also ensuring the safety and security of facilities; and

Whereas, Individuals who work in the corrections field hold a variety of essential roles, such as correctional officers, parole officers, superintendents, chaplains, cooks, social workers, teachers, counselors, nurses, medical staff, maintenance, managers, secretarial, and directors. They work tirelessly to ensure the well-being and rehabilitation of offenders while also prioritizing facility and public safety; and

Whereas, The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation has worked tirelessly this past year and continues to recruit top-tier individuals to work in the field of corrections, with over 600 cadets graduating in 2024 from the basic corrections academy; and

Whereas, The dedicated men and women of the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation consistently rise with honor to face any challenge with unwavering commitment to their field; and

Whereas, The West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation employees are to be commended for maintaining order and safety within our jails, prisons, community corrections facilities, correctional facilities, parole offices, juvenile centers, and youth reporting centers; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby designates February 26, 2025, as Corrections Day at the Legislature; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate recognizes the accomplishments and hard work of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
