SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 5

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 20A754, Latitude 38.413431, Longitude -81.796431, locally known as the Cross Lanes Overpass, carrying WV Route 622 over Interstate 64 in Kanawha County, the "U. S. Marine Corps Sergeant Robert Milford Payne Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, Robert "Bob" Milford Payne was born on September 18, 1928; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bob Payne enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on November 8, 1950, in South Charleston; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bob Payne was deployed to Hanchun-ni, Korea, where he sustained wounds in action for which he was awarded the Purple Heart; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bob Payne was honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps on May 7, 1952, and was awarded the Korean Service Medal and United Nations Medal; and
Whereas, Sgt. Bob Payne died on January 23, 2015, and was interred at the Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens in Cross Lanes; and
Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Sgt. Bob Payne and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 20A754, Latitude 38.413431, Longitude -81.796431, locally known as the Cross Lanes Overpass, carrying WV Route 622 over Interstate 64 in Kanawha County, the "U. S. Marine Corps Sergeant Robert Milford Payne Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Marine Corps Sergeant Robert Milford Payne Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
