SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 43

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 22-10-22.51,
located in Lincoln County, the "Private Brunty Willis Memorial
Bridge".
Whereas, Brunty Willis was born February 26, 1924, in
Branchland, Lincoln County, West Virginia; and
Whereas, Brunty Willis enlisted in the United States Army on
June 14, 1944, and was sent to Fort Thomas in Kentucky; and
Whereas, Private Brunty Willis was deployed to Germany during
World War II to fight for his country; and
Whereas, Sadly, Private Brunty Willis was killed in action on
March 3, 1945, in Germany, while attempting to cross the Rhine
River; and
Whereas, Private Brunty Willis was awarded the Gold Star Lapel
Button on July 16, 1953; and
Whereas, It is fitting, to honor the memory of Private Brunty
Willis, who made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and state,
by naming bridge number 22-10-22.51, located in Lincoln County, the
"Private Brunty Willis Memorial Bridge"; therefore, be it
Resolved by the West Virginia Legislature:
That the Legislature hereby requests the Division of Highways
name bridge number 22-10-22.51, located in Lincoln County, the "Private Brunty Willis Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby
requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge
as the "Private Brunty Willis Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the Senate is hereby
directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Secretary of
the Department of Transportation and the family of Private Brunty
Willis.
