HOUSE RESOLUTION 5

Recognizing the month of October as Military Toxic Exposure Awareness Month.

Whereas, The People have, over the years, demonstrated their staunch support for the United States military in locations across West Virginia such as the West Virginia Ordnance Works, West Virginia Army Ammunition Plant, Naval Ordnance Plant South Charleston, Arms Control Technology Center, and at Sugar Grove; and

Whereas, Military personnel, veterans, workers, and their families, including Vietnam veterans exposed to Agent Orange, have endured severe health consequences from toxic exposures, highlighting the long-lasting impacts of military-related contamination; and

Whereas, Recognizing October as Military Toxic Exposure Awareness Month will raise awareness about the challenges faced by those affected, advocate for research into treatments and support, and promote legislative efforts to address these critical issues; and

Whereas, It is crucial to acknowledge and support initiatives that provide assistance and resources for affected individuals and communities, ensuring they receive the care and recognition they deserve; therefore, be it

Resolved by the House of Delegates:

That the House recognizes the month of October as Military Toxic Exposure Awareness Month; and be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate encourages public awareness campaigns, educational initiatives, and community outreach efforts to inform and assist individuals affected by military-related toxic exposures, including veterans exposed to Agent Orange; and be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor, the Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, the Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Veterans Assistance, and to the members of the West Virginia Congressional delegation.
