Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 20-079/03-017.16  () (20A954), (38.18214, -81.46837) locally known as Dry Branch Bridge, carrying CR 079/03 over Cabin Creek at Dry Branch in Kanawha County, the "U.S. Army Private Robert S. Pomeroy Memorial Bridge."

Whereas, Robert S. Pomeroy lived a life worthy of remembrance; and

Whereas, Robert was born on March 1898, in Dry Branch, West Virginia to Seth and Alexis Pomeroy and was the 7^th of 12 children; and

Whereas, Robert enlisted in the Army National Guard on July 7, 1917, in Charleston, West Virginia; and

Whereas, Robert was a Private who served in Company G, 2^nd Infantry of the West Virginia National Guard (Company G, 150 Inf) until May 12^th, 1918, then went to Camp Shelby as part of the Replacement Draft Depot Division in the 1^st Corps until July 1^st, 1918, when he was assigned to the 162^nd Infantry, 41^st Division until July 7^th, 1918, and then with Company L, 3^rd Battalion, 23^rd Infantry of the elite 2^nd “Indianhead” Infantry Division until his death; and

Whereas, Private Pomeroy served overseas from June 11^th, 1918, until July 25^th, 1918, when he died of his wounds received in action and he was buried in France until 1921; and

Whereas, On June 13^th, 1921, Private Pomeroy was disinterred and his body made the journey back to his hometown of Dry Branch, West Virginia by way of Antwerp and Hoboken to be received by his father Seth on October 1, 1921, when he was buried in Hensley Cemetery; and

Whereas, For his service, Private Pomeroy was awarded the WW1 Victory Medal with Champagne-Marne Battle Clasp, the WW1 Victory Button (Silver), and the Purple Heart; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 20-079/03-017.16  () (20A954), (38.18214, -81.46837) locally known as Dry Branch Bridge, carrying CR 079/03 over Cabin Creek at Dry Branch in Kanawha County, the " U.S. Army Private Robert S. Pomeroy Memorial Bridge" and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army Private Robert S. Pomeroy Memorial Bridge," and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
