HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 87

Requesting the Division of Highways name a bridge bearing the Bridge Number: 43-021/00-000.06  () (43A071), (39.07742, -81.19013), locally known as DUTCHMAN BRIDGE (CSPG), carrying CR 021 over SOUTH FORK HUGHES RIVER in Ritchie County as the "Clark Brothers Memorial Bridge."

Whereas, All eight Clark brothers served in the military; and

Whereas, Five of the brothers served in the United States Army, and three served in the United States Navy; and

Whereas, The brothers who served in the United States Navy are W. Russell Clark, who served from 1941 to 1943, Cody E Clark, who served from 1943 to 1945, and J. Harold Clark, who served from 1937 to 1941, and then from 1942 to 1966; and

Whereas, The brothers who served in the United States Army were M. Esty Clark, who served from 1945 to 1946,  Gail C. Clark, who served from 1943 to 1944,  Raymond L. Clark, who served in 1941, Richard "Tom" Clark, who served but the time period is unknown, and
Virgil R. Clark, who served in 1953; and

Whereas, Brother Virgil Clark said of his mother, "Mom didn't cry or carry on when I had to come into the Army," and "She just sat down in a chair very quietly when I left," and

Whereas, Brother Virgil Clark was a graduate of Harrisville High School, and worked for Republic Steel in Massilion, Ohio from May 1951 until 1953; and

Whereas, Brother Virgil Clark was inducted into the military in March 12; and

Whereas, Brother Virgil Clark was the captain of his high school football and baseball teams; and

Whereas, All Clark brothers were born to Mr. and Mrs. John Clark of Macfarlan; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate the contributions of the Clark Brothers to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name a bridge bearing the Bridge Number: 43-021/00-000.06  () (43A071), (39.07742, -81.19013), locally known as DUTCHMAN BRIDGE (CSPG), carrying CR 021 over SOUTH FORK HUGHES RIVER in Ritchie County as the "Clark Brothers Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Clark Brothers Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
