HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 78

(By Delegates Iaquinta, Miley, Fragale, Barill, Manchin, Caputo, Longstreth, Manypenny, P. Smith, Mr. Speaker (Mr. Thompson)

                        and Hamrick

 

Requesting the Division of Highways to name bridge number 17-N01/95-0.06 spanning Ann Run in Bridgeport, in Harrison County the “Louis J. “Zeke” Trupo Bridge”.

    Whereas, Louis J.“Zeke” Trupo Was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia in 1919, the second son of six children of Italian immigrants, the late Leonard J. Trupo and Domenica Michele Trupo; and

    Whereas, Louis J.“Zeke” Trupo was graduated from Victory High School in Clarksburg in 1937 where he participated in basketball, wrestling and baseball; and

    Whereas, Louis attended Salem College until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and was wounded on the Island of Titian by a sniper’s bullet; a prayer missal, along with a spoon in his pocket and his dog tags deflected the bullet that otherwise would have struck his heart; this unique, life saving incident was later recognized in “Ripley’s Believe It or Not”; and

    Whereas, Zeke was later again wounded by a mortar shell in the battle of Iwo Jima; and

    Whereas, In 1946, Louis married Ada Pinion and had three children; Dr. Joseph (Debbie) Trupo of Elkins, Ms. Jona (Thomas) Michel of Bridgeport and Mr. Louis Trupo, Jr., of Columbus, Ohio; and

    Whereas, Louis worked as a maintenance foreman at Fourco Glass Company for thirty-one years; and

    Whereas, Louis was honored to have a career as an elected public servant; he was elected as Justice of the Peace and later elected Magistrate for fourteen and a half years before retiring and also was a member of the Clarksburg City Council; and

    Whereas, Louis has also given back to his community in many capacities, including as a founding member and president of the Harrison County Emergency Squad for two terms and as a volunteer member for more than twelve years as a first aid instructor and emergency medical technician, was a member of the Central West Virginia Management Club and as past President of the Clarksburg Deanery N. N. C. Men, and past president of the Bridgeport Kiwanis Club, as an instructor; and

    Whereas, It is only fitting and proper that the lifetime of community and public service by Louis J. “Zeke” Trupo be recognized in the community in which he lives and has served; therefore, be it

    Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

    That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 17-N01/95-0.06 spanning Ann Run in Bridgeport, in Harrison County the “Louis J.“Zeke” Trupo Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the “Louis J. “Zeke” Trupo Bridge”; and, be it

    Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates forward a certified copy of this resolution to Louis J. Trupo, his immediate family members and the Secretary of the Department of Transportation.
