HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 71

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 44-010/00-001.09 (44A024), locally known as MT OLIVE BRIDGE (SCBB), beginning at Latitude 38.815807, Longitude ‑81.430185, ending at Latitude 38.815550, Longitude -81.430992, carrying Reedyville Road, CR 10, over Left Fork Reedy Creek in Roane County, the "U.S. Army Corporal Leonard N. Miller Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Leonard N. Miller was born on June 8, 1926, in Spencer, West Virginia, to Lemuel Newton and Flora Nester Miller; and

Whereas, Leonard enlisted as a dental assistant in the United States Army on January 30, 1945; and

Whereas, Corporal Miller was assigned to the Medical Detachment for the 188th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 11th Airborne Division; and

Whereas, Corporal Miller was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Airborne Parachutist Badge; and

Whereas, Corporal Miller was honorably discharged from the service on November 1, 1946; and

Whereas, Following his military service, Corporal Miller returned to West Virginia, retired from Pennzoil, and worked as a mechanic at the International Garage. He enjoyed farming and collecting firearms; and

Whereas, Corporal Miller died on December 14, 2017; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U.S. Army Corporal Leonard N. Miller and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 44-010/00-001.09 (44A024), locally known as MT OLIVE BRIDGE (SCBB), beginning at Latitude 38.815807, Longitude -81.430185, ending at Latitude 38.815550, Longitude -81.430992, carrying Reedyville Road, CR 10, over Left Fork Reedy Creek in Roane County, the "U.S. Army Corporal Leonard N. Miller Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army Corporal Leonard N. Miller Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
