Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 23-016/18-000.01(23A183), at Lat./Long. 37.76296, -81.84196, locally known as Low Ash Concrete Box BM, carrying County Route 16/18 over Buffalo Creek in Logan County, the "U.S. Army Warrant Officer Sidney Washington Memorial Bridge".
Whereas, Sidney Washington was born on March 7, 1900, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Sidney Washington, Sr. and Sarah Davis Washington; and
Whereas, Sidney Washington, already a widower, enlisted in the United States Army on August 14, 1942, where he trained as a Warrant Officer; and
Whereas, Sidney Washington served in the United States Army as a Warrant Officer through World War II; and
Whereas, Warrant Officer Washington was a proud father and husband, and a lifelong coal miner, working at Buffalo Eagle Mines, Inc. until he retired; and
Whereas, Warrant Officer Washington passed away at James E. Crouch VA Hospital, on June 6, 1970, leaving behind his wife, Myrtice Washington and several children; and
Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate Warrant Officer Sidney Washington, Jr. and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 23-016/18-000.01(23A183), at Lat./Long. 37.76296, -81.84196, locally known as Low Ash Concrete Box BM, carrying County Route 16/18 over Buffalo Creek in Logan County, the "U.S. Army Warrant Officer Sidney Washington Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U.S. Army Warrant Officer Sidney Washington Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House is hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
