Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 40-064/00-044.47 () (40A075), (38.44092, -81.83320) locally known as I-64 NITRO INTERCHANGE BRIDGE, carrying IS 064 over WV25, CR25/30, N&S RR in Putnam County, the "Ronnie W. Matthews Memorial Bridge."
Whereas, Ronnie W. Matthews lived a life worthy of remembrance; and
Whereas, Ronnie was born on August 22nd, 1952, in Charleston, West Virginia to Alvin Guy and Sylvia Bowcott Matthews; and
Whereas, Ronnie grew up and was educated in Nitro, West Virginia where he was a well-known businessman later in his life; and
Whereas, Ronnie was elected to be the Putnam County Circuit Clerk in 2008, served his community on various boards and councils, and was a part of the Chapman Funeral Home family; and
Whereas, Ronnie was an ardent supporter of the Republican party, a member of the Kanawha Valley Masonic Lodge #36 AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, and the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple; and
Whereas, Ronnie was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his fellow soldiers as an integral part of the James Marshall American Legion Post #187 in Winfield, West Virginia; and
Whereas, Ronnie passed away on September 25th, 2018, in Huntington; and
Whereas, Ronnie is survived by his wife Brenda Gibson Matthews, his sons Duke and Dustin, and siblings Sharon Skeens and Harold and will be forever remembered for his humor and love of his community therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 40-064/00-044.47 () (40A075), (38.44092, -81.83320) locally known as I-64 NITRO INTERCHANGE BRIDGE, carrying IS 064 over WV25, CR25/30, N&S RR in Putnam County, the "Ronnie W. Matthews Memorial Bridge" and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "Ronnie W. Matthews Memorial Bridge," and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
