HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 51

Requesting the Division of Highways name bridge number 53-032/003.45, locally known as the Peewee Pony Truss (SSPT), carrying CR 032 over Right Fork Reedy Creek in Wirt County, the "U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Roy Lee Hill was born on April 5, 1914, the son of David Taylor Hill and Nancy Susan Hill; and

Whereas, U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill was married to Ethel Mildred Channels Hill on October 28, 1939, at Reedy South Parsonage, Reedy, Roane County, West Virginia, and they had five children: Ronald Lee Hill, Melvin Wayne Hill (1948-1962), Darrell James Hill, Teresa Sue Hill and Janet Faye Hill; and

Whereas U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill entered the U. S. Army on May 18, 1945 and served in the Pacific theatre at the end of and after World War II. He was awarded the World War II Victory Metal and the Asiapacific Theatre Service Metal for his service; and

Whereas, U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill worked as a farmer and also on a neighbor's dairy farm. He also grew tobacco; and

Whereas, U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill loved going to church and singing Gospel music with his family; and

Whereas, U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill died on December 12, 1978; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill and his contributions to our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name bridge number 53-032/003.45, locally known as the Peewee Pony Truss (SSPT), carrying CR 032 over Right Fork Reedy Creek in Wirt County, the "U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the "U. S. Army PFC Roy Lee Hill Memorial Bridge". Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
