HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 45

Requesting the Division of Highways to name bridge number 42-250-
14.30 on U.S. Route 250 over the Tygart River in Huttonsville,
Randolph County, West Virginia the "Robert L. McAtee, Sr.
Memorial Bridge."
Whereas, Robert L. McAtee, Sr. was born on September 10, 1952,
a son of Loy and Katheryn Liggett McAtee; and
Whereas, On October 3, 1970, Robert L. McAtee, Sr. married
Caffey L. Taylor McAtee. In addition to his loving parents and
wife, he is survived by three sons, Robert L. McAtee Jr., Rodney
McAtee and wife, Marsha, Shaun McAtee, and one daughter, Jennifer
McAtee, all of Huttonsville; two brothers, Eugene McAtee and wife,
Kandi, of Mill Creek, and Paul McAtee and wife, Louise, of Dailey;
one sister, Mary J. Marcum and husband, Tim of Huttonsville; five
grandchildren, Alexis Ciera, Sommer Jo, Landon, Robert and Noah
Bradley; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death
were one brother, Loy Earl McAtee; and one sister, Emily Vada
McAtee; and
Whereas, Robert L. McAtee, Sr. attended Webster County schools
and served with the West Virginia Army National Guard Battery A
201st Field Artillery for 19 years, where he obtained the rank of
Sgt. 1st Class. For the past eight years, Robert was a full-time bus driver for Randolph County Schools and was a substitute driver
for many years before that. Robert attended the Calvary Assembly
of God Church in Valley Head and had been a trustee for the Brick
Church Cemetery since 1994; and
Whereas, Robert L. McAtee, Sr. served on the Huttonsville Town
Council for several terms and had served as mayor of Huttonsville
since 1991; and
Whereas, Robert L. McAtee, Sr. was an active member of the
Huttonsville-Mill Creek Volunteer Fire Department for the past 38
years, and on the day of his passing, Robert had responded to the
scene of a chimney fire.
Upon his arrival, Robert reported to the
Fire Chief, his son, and told him that he thought he had pulled a
muscle
opening the fire truck bay door when leaving the station.
Robert was later observed holding his chest and,
when asked,
indicated that he thought the extremely cold weather was causing
him discomfort. He declined to be sent for evaluation or treatment
and returned the fire truck to the
station; and
Whereas, Sadly, Robert L. McAtee, Sr. was found unresponsive
later that day at his residence and passed away shortly thereafter
at the Davis Memorial Hospital emergency room; and
Whereas,
It is only fitting and proper that we remember Robert
L. McAtee, Sr. for his devoted service to the town of Huttonsville
and southern Randolph County, and that we remember and acknowledge
his many good deeds on behalf of his fellow community members;
therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name
bridge number 42-250-14.30 on U.S. Route 250 over the Tygart River
in Huttonsville, Randolph County, West Virginia the "Robert L.
McAtee, Sr. Memorial Bridge"; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is requested
to have made and be placed, signs identifying the bridge as the
"Robert L. McAtee, Sr. Memorial Bridge; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates
forward a certified copy of this resolution to the family of
Robert L. McAtee, Sr. and the Secretary of the Department of
Transportation.
