HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION 32

Requesting the Division of Highways name Bridge Number: 41-001/04-000.02  () (41A010), (37.95138, -81.43833) locally known as Colcord Bridge, carrying CR 01/04 over Clear Fork in Raleigh County, the "U.S. Army Private Leon “Deacon” Stover Memorial Bridge".

Whereas, Leon "Deacon" Stover was born October 7, 1931, at Pettus, the son of the late Rulie Stover and Leva "Tootie" Rickman Stover; and

Whereas, Leon "Deacon" Stover was a founder, head deacon, trustee and a 23-year member of the Free Pentecostal Church of God at Sycamore; and

Whereas, U. S. Army Private Leon "Deacon" Stover was inducted into the U. S. Army July 29, 1952, where he served honorably; and

Whereas, U. S. Army Private Leon "Deacon" Stover was a 33-year retired member of the UMWA Local Number 1123 and was well-known in the Clear Fork Community; and

Whereas, U. S. Army Private Leon "Deacon" Stover, died on Tuesday, September 2, 1997, at his home following a sudden illness; he was preceded in death by brother and sister, Bobby and Betty Stover and was survived by his wife of 40 years, Nancy Jane Hodge Stover, children Leon "Rocky" Stover Jr, Eric "Ricky'' Stover, Pam Pandelious, Sherry Goins, Lisa Stewart, Beth Beverlin, and Josh Stover, and siblings Okey "Roochie" Petry, Rulie "Butch" Stover, Jacquetta Stover Toney, Doretta Burkish, Sandy Jackson, and Burma Dale Wells; and

Whereas, It is fitting that an enduring memorial be established to commemorate U. S. Army Private Leon "Deacon" Stover and his contributions to his community and our state and country; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to name Bridge Number: 41-001/04-000.02  () (41A010), (37.95138, -81.43833) locally known as Colcord Bridge, carrying CR 01/04 over Clear Fork in Raleigh County, the "U.S. Army Private Leon “Deacon” Stover Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Division of Highways is hereby requested to have made and be placed signs identifying the bridge as the “U.S. Army Private Leon “Deacon” Stover Memorial Bridge"; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House forward a copy of this resolution to the Commissioner of the Division of Highways.
