A BILL to amend the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, by
adding thereto a new section, designated §5-7-7a, relating to
limiting the requirement of the use of a Social Security
number in securing state, county or local services to those
circumstances where the providing or presentation of one's
Social Security number is required or authorized by federal
law or regulation or state law or rule.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended
by adding thereto a new section, designated §5-7-7a, to read as
follows:
ARTICLE 7. SOCIAL SECURITY AGENCY.
§5-7-7a. Limitation on requiring a person to provide or present
Social Security number.
No agency of state government nor any county or local
government may require a person to provide or present his or her
Social Security number for any purpose absent a federal statute or
regulation or state statute or rule expressly authorizing or
requiring the practice.
