Charleston, WV - Mingo County Delegates Harry Keith White and Steve Kominar, working in conjunction with Governor Earl Ray Tomblin, recently awarded Mingo County Board of Education with an $85,000 funding grant for a “Light Structure Green” system for the Kermit, WV K-8 Multi Purpose Field in close proximity to the Kermit K-8 school.
A “Light Structure Green” system is a complete lighting system designed and manufactured from the concrete foundation to the pole top. The grant would cover materials and installation based on field size, structural codes and shipment of entire project to location.
The field has been constructed thus far with private sector donations totaling over $200,000 and the added grant money will allow for completion of the field and allow a lighting system, needed for the football teams utilization, to be installed.
“I believe this is a good investment opportunity for continued economic development growth as well as a good partnership between private and public funding,” said Delegate Kominar. “The Mingo County delegation in the House of Delegates has always been committed to improving our local infrastructure and providing access to recreational possibilities for our youth.”
Delegate White was also pleased to see this grant awarded for this project.
“This money will go a long way toward providing the youth and their families of the Kermit area with a safe, accessible place to continue developing the healthy lifestyles we are promoting with the Governor’s office to combat the growing child obesity issue facing West Virginia, particularly in the southern areas,” said Delegate White. I applaud the Governor and his staff for their cooperation on this project and look forward to continuing collaborative efforts.”
