DELEGATE MILLER INVITED TO NATIONAL ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON JUSTICE REINVESTMENT

HUNTINGTON, WEST VIRGINIA – Delegate Carol Miller (R-Cabell/Lincoln) has been invited to participate in a national roundtable discussion on Justice Reinvestment in Texas. Delegate Miller is one of fifteen policy makers nationwide to be invited due to her hard work and leadership on this issue. Together the Pew Center and the Council of State Governments will lead the discussion on the importance of Justice Reinvestment, drug treatment and strategies to pass the much needed reforms.

“It is a great honor to be among the nations leaders in this important conversation regarding justice reinvestment and drug treatment,” said Delegate Carol Miller. “Every state in our nation is struggling with drug addiction and prison overcrowding due to drugs. I am eager to continue the hard work to make our communities safer and drug free.”

Justice Reinvestment changes the way our judicial and correctional systems operate by using many different approaches to sentencing and where time is served mostly for the nonviolent drug offender. The end goal is to rehabilitate those that can be and to use taxpayer money in a more efficient manner. Other states that have passed justice reinvestment policies have saved billions in taxpayer money.
