Statement on Food Tax Reduction

House Minority Leader Tim Armstead, (R) - Kanawha, issued the following statement today regarding the reduction and upcoming elimination of the sales tax on food in West Virginia:

"Full elimination of the sales tax on food has been a top priority of the House Republican caucus for several years, and this tax cut for our citizens is a direct result of the consistent and dedicated efforts of Republican legislators. We are pleased that Governor Tomblin ultimately modified his position and agreed with us that the full elimination of the tax was needed and that such tax cut could not wait for a period of three or four years. The reduction of the sales tax to one percent this year and full elimination next year will help all our citizens make ends meet in these tough economic times."
