Senator Mark Maynard Named Vice Chairman of Government Organization Committee

CHARLESTON – Senate President Mitch Carmichael, R-Jackson, and Senator Ed Gaunch, R-Kanawha, have named Senator Mark Maynard, R-Wayne, as Vice Chairman of the Senate Government Organization Committee. He replaces Senator Gaunch, who recently was named Chairman.

Senator Maynard, who was elected in 2014, currently serves as Chairman of the Natural Resources and Enrolled Bills committees, Vice Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, and co-Chairman of the Legislative Rule-Making Review Committee. He also serves as a member of the Agriculture, Education, Interstate Cooperation, Judiciary, and Transportation and Infrastructure committees.

Senator Maynard represents parts of Wayne, Mingo, McDowell, and all of Mercer county. He is the owner and proprietor of an automotive business in Wayne County.

“I’m pleased to select Senator Maynard to be Vice Chairman for this critical committee,” Senate President Carmichael said. “This is one of the most powerful committees in the Senate, and Senator Maynard is bringing with him a strong understanding of the legislative rule-making process. He is one of our most tireless workers, and I know he will bring that kind of strong work ethic to this committee.”

Senator Maynard will begin his duties immediately.

“It is my privilege and honor to be able to serve the people of West Virginia in this new role,” Senator Maynard said. “I hope to be able to build upon the success we have seen throughout the previous three sessions, and really make a strong difference in the way West Virginia does business. I’ve had a unique look at state government through my time with the Legislative Rule-Making Review Committee, and I’m looking forward to making these committees work seamlessly to benefit the people of this great state. This new position really fits into my hands-on approach to solving problems in my district.”
