House Passes Immunization Exemption Bill

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Senate Bill 286 was passed in the House today. This bill grants exemptions to immunizations for children who attend public schools. It provides for any licensed physician to be able to grant exemptions for immunizations in certain circumstances as the physician sees fit. Delegate Jeff Eldridge (D-Lincoln) spoke out against the bill.

“I am totally opposed to this bill. This bill removes common-sense protections to ensure the health of all our children. An amendment to the bill that might have improved it was shot down.”

Amendments were debated for the bill yesterday. An amendment by Delegate Joe Ellington (R-Mercer) and Matthew Rohrbach (R-Cabell) was voted down yesterday on the floor.

The bill will be sent to the Senate for concurrence on House amendments.
