Raleigh County Caucus Working Together Throughout Session

Charleston, WV - A bipartisan group of House and Senate members are meeting regularly to communicate on issues and track legislation important to Raleigh County.

“This was and informal group that we started to get together at the beginning of the session and has now developed into an active caucus,” said Delegate Mick Bates (D- Raleigh).

The group has been meeting bi-weekly and now will meet weekly until the end of season.

“We are working together to make sure we do what is best irrespective of party for the County we represent,” said Delegate John O'Neal (R-Raleigh)

In addition to individually being busy working on many major pieces of legislation that affect West Virginia as a whole the Caucus that consists of Delegates Bates, O’Neal, Arvon, Cooper, Fast, Kissinger, Moye, Grerhart and Perry and Senators Hall and Mullins is monitoring several issues including but not limited to: ensuring adequate funding for Theatre WV in a tight budget year; fireworks legislation that would provide a revenue stream for the construction of a veteran's nursing home in Beckley; and, the enabling legislation that would allow the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to open up its facilities at the Bechtel Summit for use beyond its core not-for-profit activities and contribute revenue in the way of a fees that could go for tourism projects and economic development in Raleigh and the surrounding counties.
