Delegate Perdue Appointed to NSCL Vice Chairmanship

The National Conference of State Legislatures has chosen Delegate Don Perdue to serve as overall Vice Chair of Standing Committees, which oversees and coordinates the policymaking of the entire organization.

“The NCSL standing committees constitute the focal point for the organization’s invaluable assistance to legislatures on state issues and its formidable and successful representation of state interests in Washington D.C.,” noted NCSL President Debbie Smith.

For the first meeting of his two-year term as Vice Chair, Delegate Perdue will travel to Washington D.C. Dec. 9.

“Having just completed an unprecedented two-year term as co-chair of the National Conference of State Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee, I have enjoyed working on protecting states' interests in federal decisions regarding Medicaid and other federal programs that provide critically important services to individuals and families,” Perdue, who is Chairman of the WV House Health Committee, noted. “This appointment will allow me to continue that work on an even broader array of issues affecting both West Virginians and individuals nationwide.”

NCSL's Standing Committees are comprised of legislators and legislative staff appointed to serve by legislative leaders in their states. The committees develop NCSL's policy positions on federal issues of interest to state legislatures and provide a forum for state legislators and legislative staff to discuss key public policy issues of interest to states.

The overall Standing Committee officers are assigned a variety of responsibilities, including reviewing pending policy directives, identifying emerging state and federal issues, and coordinating outreach to legislators and staff.

“I am honored that the NCSL President and President-Elect have chosen me for this position and I’m excited to get to work,” Delegate Perdue said.
