Delegate Guthrie ; ;

Delegate Guthrie to Serve on Water Commission

Delegate Nancy Guthrie said she is pleased to have been selected by House Speaker Tim Miley to serve on the Public Water System Supply Study Commission, which was created by the Above Ground Storage Tank Act (Senate Bill 373).

"I appreciate Speaker Miley's confidence in me,” Guthrie, D-Kanawha, said. “Three hundred thousand people in and around Kanawha County had their confidence in our water system shaken to the core, and it is a giant wake-up call that our system of service in all our water systems needs serious review."

Speaker Miley said Delegate Guthrie, who was appointed Aug. 21, is a natural fit for the commission.

“Having served a constituency directly affected by the massive water crisis earlier this year, then spending many hours working on the details of comprehensive legislation to protect West Virginia’s water supply, Delegate Guthrie will bring the experience needed to help move this commission forward,” Miley said.

The 12-member commission – which includes four members appointed by the Governor, one representative designated by the Rural Water Association, the Municipal League, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Bureau for Public Health, the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management, the Chairman of the Public Service Commission, a non-voting member appointed by the Senate President and a non-voting member appointed by the Speaker of the House – is to submit reports to the Joint Committee on Government and Finance on or before December 15 of each year, beginning this year.
