House Republicans Vote to Restore Vetoed Funding

Charleston, WV – The Republican members of the House of Delegates today voted unanimously to restore funding for crucial program that serve West Virginia’s children and families. Funding for such programs was cut by Governor Tomblin in his line-item veto of the budget earlier this year.

“I am tremendously pleased and proud of each and every one of our Republican legislators who stepped up and said today, loudly and clearly, that the safety and well-being of our children and families is a top priority in our State. We restored more than $1 million in funding for programs to serve our children, such as Child Advocacy Centers and Family Resource Networks, and to prevent domestic violence against our citizens,” said House Minority Leader Tim Armstead.

The funding restored is as follows: Family Resource Networks $150,464; Domestic Violence Legal Services Fund $30,000; In-Home Family Education $250,000; Grants for Licensed Domestic Violence Programs and Statewide Prevention $357,900; Children’s Trust Fund $80,000.

All 41 Republican Delegates present voted to restore such funding and a number of Republican members stood on the floor of the House to urge their fellow members to support the measure.
