Delegate Looks Toward Inter-Connectivity For Solution To Water Woes

CHARLESTON, WV – Many water systems are separated by short distances in municipalities and public service districts. Interconnectivity and alternate intake locations, will add redundancy similar to the power grid. This would allow for uninterrupted water service if one of the water systems was compromised by contaminates, mechanical issues or drought. In many instances interconnectivity can be achieved rather efficiently and produce immediately tangible results.

“Clean and safe drinking water is essential for all West Virginia citizens, especially in times of emergency and drought. This resolution will allow the Legislature to study the water distribution systems and focus on how to avert a water crisis,” said Delegate Gary Howell (R-Mineral). “As an example, in Keyser, Mineral County the water storage dam was drained for repair work. The water company used an alternative intake location to minimize the disruption of water service. Although this was not an emergency situation the same type of system can be used to mitigate a contaminated water system. I look forward to studying this important issue.”

The resolution, HCR 51, has been introduce and is currently in House Rules Committee.
