House to Hold Public Hearing on Water Legislation Monday

CHARLESTON – Those concerned about the ongoing water crisis or who have relevant information to share are invited to attend, or listen to via the internet, a public hearing 5:30 pm Monday in the House of Delegates chamber.

“The House leadership would like to give everyone who wants input in this important legislation to have the opportunity to participate,” House Speaker Tim Miley said. “Legislation of this magnitude should be addressed very methodically and with great care. We want to ensure that the final product takes meaningful steps to truly protect our state’s water supply and the health of the public.”

The House of Delegates Health Committee, which be the first committee to consider Senate Bill 373, is hosting the hearing jointly with the House Judiciary and Finance committees.

“This is public health issue No. 1 for the Legislature,” House Health Chairman Don Perdue said. “Once we’ve heard from all interested parties, we intend to get to work fine tuning a bill.”

The hearing will be broadcast on the Legislature’s “Live” page, http://www.legis.state.wv.us/live.cfm. Just click on the House of Delegates Chamber image.

To view the senate bill, go to http://www.legis.state.wv.us , click on “Bill Status” and enter 373.

* While all members of House are focused on the issue of water quality, public hearing attendees are asked not to bring water samples. There are not water testing facilities at the Statehouse, and Capitol Security will not allow unidentified liquids into the building
