Senator Fitzsimmons ;

Fitzsimmons Introduces Ohio County TIF Expansion Bill

CHARLESTON, W.V. - Senator Rocky Fitzsimmons (D – Ohio) introduced a bill today that will increase the acreage included in the tax increment financing (TIF) zone in Ohio County known as “The Highlands.” The 200 acre expansion will make it possible for the Ohio County Development Authority to finance and construct a new interstate interchange. “The second Interchange will increase overall safety in the area and provide further opportunities for commercial expansion,” says Fitzsimmons.

Fitzsimmons added, “The tremendous growth and success of the Highlands has resulted in a need for a new interchange.” The Ohio County Development Authority has already spent $2.5 million on the proposed Interchange design plans, permits and approvals. The TIF expansion would provide the financing for the interchange so that the construction phase can commence.

Senate Bill 439 was double referenced to the Government Organization and Finance Committees.

The Highlands shopping, dining and entertainment complex is located at Cabela Drive (Exit 10) off I-70 just east of Wheeling. It has become one of the most successful retail developments in the tri-state area.
